WHAT IS STACK™ ENHANCED WOOD ?

STACK™ is an enhanced wood material developed by Woodoo using French poplar from PEFC-certified forests. Through a patented industrial process (over 80 patents), the wood is treated at the molecular level: its cells are filled with a 100% bio-based binder derived from agricultural waste. The result is a material composed of 65% wood / 35% binder, with a density of 1230 kg/m³. It outperforms traditional wood in durability, weather resistance, and dimensional stability, while maintaining its warm, natural aesthetic.

HOW IS STACK™ DIFFERENT FROM TRADITIONAL WOOD?

Where natural wood tends to grey, warp, and require regular maintenance, STACK™ overcomes these limitations through its deep molecular transformation :

  • 10-year guaranteed resistance to greying, even under UV exposure
  • Exceptional dimensional stability — moisture uptake < 1%
  • Resistance to fungi, parasites, and insects
  • No surface treatment required (oiling, staining, varnishing)
  • Mechanical performance comparable to tropical hardwood (density 1200 kg/m³, Monnin hardness 80), 100% made in France
WHERE DOES THE WOOD USED TO CREATE STACK™ COME FROM ?

STACK™ is made from rotary-cut treated poplar sourced in France, from PEFC-certified forests. Poplar is a locally available, underutilized species that grows in less than 20 years (compared to 40 years for Douglas fir and 100 years for oak).

By valorizing this abundant resource, Woodoo helps relocalize and decarbonize the timber construction sector. Sourcing comes from the Grand Est region, with processing carried out in Troyes.

WHERE IS STACK™ MANUFACTURED?

STACK™ is an enhanced wood material developed by Woodoo from French poplar sourced from PEFC-certified forests. Through a patented industrial process (over 80 patents), the wood is treated at the molecular level: its cells are infused with a 100% bio-based binder derived from agricultural waste. The result is a material composed of 65% wood / 35% binder, with a density of 1230 kg/m³. It outperforms traditional wood in durability, weather resistance, and dimensional stability, while preserving its warm, natural aesthetic.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT APPLICATIONS OF STACK™ ?

STACK™ comes in four distinct applications :

Exterior wood cladding — interlocking profile, horizontal or vertical installation, compliant with DTU 41.2

Façade fins & sunshades — solid slats for solar protection and architectural design

Engineered wood structure — columns and long-span beams (up to 14 m), compatible with hybrid wood-concrete / wood-steel structures

Urban furniture — benches, planters, shelters, and outdoor installations for intensive urban environments

CAN STACK™ BE INSTALLED AS VERTICAL EXTERIOR CLADDING ?

Yes. The interlocking draining profile is suitable for both horizontal and vertical installation, in compliance with DTU 41.2. A single stainless steel screw fixed at the center of the board is sufficient (pre-drilling required). Fastener head penetration: none or ≤ 1 mm. Recommended batten spacing: 500 mm maximum.

CAN A SCREENED FACADE BE MADE WITH STACK™ ?

Yes. STACK™ is perfectly suited for open-joint façades (spaced slats), particularly in its façade fin configuration. This setup creates a dynamic interplay of light and shadow while ensuring natural ventilation of the envelope. Existing projects demonstrate this application, such as the BNP Paribas Real Estate technical facility, installed by Legendre (2025). The material retains its durability properties in this type of installation.

IS STACK™ SUITABLE FOR URBAN FURNITURE ?

Yes. The STACK™ Urban Furniture range is designed to withstand weather exposure and intensive use. It offers a durable and warmer alternative to metal solutions, with a 10-year no-greying guarantee. Reference: ADP benches – Orly, installed by the Eiffage Group (2025).

Standard board dimensions: 2200 × 160 × 15 mm, with custom formats available up to 6000 mm.

WHAT IS ITS LIFESPAN WITHOUT WEATHERING TO GREY ?

STACK™ guarantees 10 years without greying on exterior façades, even under UV exposure and harsh weather. Unlike natural wood, which begins to grey within a few months, STACK™ retains its original color thanks to its deep molecular transformation. No greying was observed during testing.

HOW DOES STACK™ PERFORM AGAINST HUMIDITY ?

Moisture uptake < 1% (compared to 8–15% for solid wood). This eliminates shrinkage, swelling, and warping caused by seasonal humidity variations. The material is rot-proof, resistant to pests and fungi, and remains stable in humid or industrial environments.

CAN STACK™ BE USED IN A VENTILATED FACADE ?

Yes, compliant with DTU 41.2. Requirements to be met:

    • Ventilated air gap with a minimum nominal thickness of 20 mm
    • Minimum airflow of 50 cm² per linear meter of cladding
    • Bottom (inlet) and top (outlet) ventilation directly to the exterior
    • For multi-story buildings : divide the air gap or increase the airflow
    WHAT MAINTENANCE DOES STACK™ REQUIRE?

No maintenance required. No oiling, varnishing, or surface treatment—neither at installation nor during the service life. Simple cleaning with clear water (or a neutral treatment for deposits) is sufficient. This represents a significant long-term economic advantage, whereas traditional solutions incur recurring maintenance costs.

STACK™ VS CONCRETE : WHAT ARE THE STRUCTURAL ADVANTAGES?
    • 7× stronger than concrete at equivalent cross-section
    • Lower cost for equivalent strength
    • 2× faster to construct
    • 80% lower carbon emissions over the full lifecycle (sourcing, production, transport)
    • Cross-sections 2× slimmer than glued-laminated timber for the same span
    • Compatible with timber-concrete or timber-steel hybrid structures according to Eurocode 5
STACK™ VS EXOTIC OR TROPICAL WOOD ?

Locally sourced (France, Grand Est region) versus intercontinental imports

Significantly reduced carbon footprint : no long-distance transportation

PEFC-certified versus often uncertain traceability for exotic woods

Equivalent mechanical properties (density: 1200 kg/m³, Monnin hardness: 80)

STACK™ VS STEEL : WHY CHOOSE ENHANCED WOOD FOR STRUCTURAL USE?
    • 90% lower emissions than metallic materials
    • Much lighter (1230 kg/m³ vs ~7850 kg/m³ for steel)
    • Machinable with standard woodworking tools; on-site assembly with galvanized steel fasteners
    • Warm natural aesthetic versus industrial appearance
    • Competitive price at equivalent performance

    IS STACK™ A BIO-BASED MATERIAL ?

Yes, STACK™ is 100% bio-based : 65% French poplar wood + 35% fully bio-based binder made from agricultural waste, validated by FCBA. No petroleum-based synthetic chemicals are used in its composition. It achieves a global warming potential of 11 kg CO₂e/m² on façades.

IS STACK™ RECYCLABLE AT THE END OF ITS LIFE ?

Yes. At end of life, STACK™ is classified as BR2-type wood waste (currently being characterized by FCBA). Fully circular approach: underutilized French hardwood → bio-based binder from agricultural waste → recoverable at the end of its lifecycle. This represents a radically different approach compared to composites or metallic materials.
